The Frostbite show is held every year in early March
at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, TX.
The 2011 show will be our thirteenth annual, and will be held on March
5 & 6
Frostbite I on Saturday and Frostbite II on Sunday!!
It is with
much regret that I have to announce that the Thirteenth Annual Frostbite
Shows, slated for March 5 and 6, 2011,
will have to be cancelled.
The opening date was to have been tomorrow, 1/7/11, please pass the
word to your friends and barnmates....
Just to explain a bit what prompted
the cancellation of the 2011 show...
The Frostbite show was on the GSEC calendar for March 5&6 in the
main arena. No one was in the East arena, which meant that unless a
second party signed up for it, I could use it if needed for a third
arena.
I got a call from management on Tues 12/28 saying that GSEC wanted to
develop and host a big reining competition that same weekend, and had
planned to use the East Arena. But they were contacted by whoever sanctions
reining events, and told that they would only be approved if they used
the main arena. Therefore, Sean wanted me to hold my Frostbite Show
in the East Arena. I told him that I couldnt fit two dressage arenas
in the East arena. He suggested in that case that I use the two all-weather
outdoor arenas. I explained that no one would want to take the chance
on entering an outdoor show the first weekend in March, the weather
is too chancy, even if the footing was all-weather.
My opening date was to have been January 7, so I had to decide what
to do. I spoke to my judges, a couple of trainers who have come to all
of my shows, and a couple of my longtime volunteers. Everyone agreed
that the East Arena and/or the outdoor arenas would not be sufficient,
and the best thing to do would be to cancel. While my show has never
been fancy, its been a nice, quiet and safe, low-key show, that was
comfortable for a early season show.
I didnt want to hold a show that was less than what everyone had come
to expect over the years. And while GSEC felt that reining and dressage
shows could be run smoothly at the same time, I think the dressage horses
would be a bit freaked out by the reining horses and the enthusiastic
crowds, even without the arena problems.
I've just looked at the GSEC calendar again today, just curious to see
if the website had been updated. Up until I checked today, Frostbite
had been listed online for the main arena, and reining for the east
arena on the 5/6, with a GSEC Open Show on the calendar for the following
weekend, the 12/13. Today the calendar is updated to show the Reining
Show in the entire facility the 5/6, and an opening available on the
following weekend, apparently the Open Show has been cancelled. Unfortunately
my show has now already been cancelled with USEF/USDF, so a date change
is not possible. Also, my officials, etc were slated for the 5/6.
Long story short, it looks like I am going to get a bit of a "vacation"
from hosting a USEF/USDF show this year, which believe me is not an
easy undertaking even under the smoothest of circumstances. I am very
sorry for anyone who was planning on coming to the show, but I would
be even sorrier to hold the show and have it be so different from what
you have come to expect. Being forced to show outdoors in the cold and
rain, or having someone's young horse upset by sliding spinning reining
horses would have been the last things I would want to happen.
I hope you all understand!
Christy
(Don't forget this means you must fill out two entry forms, one per
show)
